Linux tip: use “xdg-open filename” from a shell to open a file using it’s preferred app, just like Mac OSX’s “open” command.

Rsync on Mac OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) nibbles away RAM until system is unusable. “purge” command frees inactive buffers. OS should do better.
