Google announced their Doodle finalists! google.com/doodle4google/ There must be some mistake… our entries are not there! :-o
nsj 1237p - We’re watching the warm, unstable air (colors) sneaking northward. Now 74 at FAY, 82 in Clinton & ILM. #ncwx pic.twitter.com/ZBnn6GxnLf
NWSRaleigh Surface warm front steadily moving north across central NC now. More details in attached a graphic… #ncwx pic.twitter.com/x39OtAC9x2
Morning was chilly at 55°F, But that’s OK, forecast said high would be 81°F. SHORTS WEATHER! (WRONG - It’s still only 58°F at 1:30pm)
@patsheadcom Spent all weekend playing with BitTorrent Sync, then with SeaFile (based on your blog advice). Thanks for sharing.
Big brown cloud of smoke over the trees outside, looks like just past our neighborhood. Sirens heard. Smells like burned plastic.
@ryanbutcher I should try to learn some piece of everyday knowledge every day.
@ryanbutcher Today, we can learn the difference between “everyday” (an adjective) and “every day” (an adverb phrase). http://t.co/fa4KiOB4gh
Whose bright idea was it to show a featureless black screen during the boot-up process? #ubuntu
@mkennedy2d Ooh, Bittorrent Sync looks like the cat’s meow. Thanks for the tip!
… and @SpiderOak v5.1.3 is back to consuming 100% CPU on my headless Linux server.
I’ve learned to press my iPhone’s “home” button with a non-TouchID finger whenever I want to see the messages on the lock screen.
Charge all the things!
Upgraded @SpiderOak on all computers, deleted stale configs, scrubbed & resynced my headless server. Now it’s back to using very little CPU.
Fed up with @SpiderOak (Linux) burning 50%-100% CPU all of the time, even when nothing’s going on, and then taking forever to sync files.
@LeafStorm I’m living that dream.
New policy at work: company provides coffee, but not sugar or cream. Building loyalty, one black cup at a time.
It’s April… time for me to gripe about @wunc having another fund drive, less than two months since their February drive ended.
@Hay Or, in other words… “what he said” (hate when I do that)
@Hay See if you have a “group” selected on the contacts app. It acts like a filter.
With two pre-teen daughters in the house, I think I can directly blame Disney for my high water bills. #frozen ♬
Track 4 goes back to school… just in time!
You sure do see a lot of New Jersey license plates on the fronts of NC cars.
Microphone and plastic box at our office. I think the nearby construction crew is trying to reduce noise complaints. pic.twitter.com/ztsZ8opHhZ
Lessons Learned in Tech Support this week (1) Check version #, might surprise you (2) Google the error message, sometimes it’s that simple.
I wrote a cron job that dumps all employees from our LDAP directory and compares it with yesterday’s dump, highlights new hires and fires.
Installed Ubuntu 12.04 on the server with NTP problems, and (so far) the time drift problem is not there.
That Ubuntu server’s clock has advanced 60 minutes in the last 30 actual minutes.
Set up Ubuntu 14.04 on a server at $WORK. Started NTP, wondering why my time is now diverging. Trying u12.04 on another server to compare.
“Thank you for downloading Ubuntu Desktop” and
“Thanks for downloading Ubuntu Server” #ubuntu
@appannie Thanks, I noticed the correction a few days ago. To be honest, I figured you’d be more worried about it than me.
Folks are starting to ask about BarCampRDU 2014… aren’t @OSIntegrators organizing this year? What can we tell those interested?
Some time recently, our street got a new LED street light, and it is unbelievably bright. Fortunately, it’s a few houses away.
.@Sync I’m still waiting for you to say “Linux support” (and hoping you’ll also say “headless”).
We are only seven minutes late… meaning, we’re early… nobody else is here yet.
Seeing (and smelling) a lot of wisteria this weekend.
This weekend has been dominated by our garage sale and a dripping shower faucet… and then the dripping shower faucet AGAIN!
@GrnStreet Thanks for the motivation. It’s still old-skool 1990 in appearance, but now 100% HTML5 compliant. http://t.co/fxvwAVVIOl
@GrnStreet Hey, “alanporter.com backslash contact” is 100% HTML5 compliant. :-) Made my site in 2001, updated in ’14 to use jekyl.
@hartsock I’d love to hear anecdotes. Many argue today that ideas are seldom stolen b/c it’s all about execution and not the idea.
@GrnStreet I love listening to the @coldbustedbeats podcast, but I cringe every time you call / a “backslash”
@appannie On my (free) daily app sales report, click on a single app and it shows dates 2012-10-04~2012-10-04, can’t change it. Bug?
Our equivalent to the “PC LOAD LETTER” from Office Space is “The ADF is currently not available.” pic.twitter.com/Kjynss5sv9
And THAT, kids, is why Daddy has such a short attention span!
That goes for @OreoSpeedwagon_, too… she also sounds like she needs some good Internet vibes from afar.
@kateleth You’ve been in our thoughts and prayers… even though you don’t know me from George Takei.
I have “geocacher’s disease”… I seem overlook things that are right in front of my face.
A very wise friend once told me: “Don’t worry about your tools. Worry about your data, and then change your tools as needed”.
Somebody put a temperature logging device on a tree next to the creek in our neighborhood. I wonder why? pic.twitter.com/LnJltzf9lw
I’m sure there’s a good story behind this… net and undies on the greenway path. pic.twitter.com/madR3rMRVt
Wow, trilobites and tardigrades. #science
I’m not sure which is worse: doing my taxes, or having to run the tax software in Windows. Once a year to too many.
Yesterday, the kids went to a jumping house called “Defy Gravity”. I had to stay at the office, which I call “Defy Sanity”.
Work week: done.
Yard weeds: pulled.
Supper: eaten.
It’s COSMOS time!
Insecure @twitter app for iphone needs attention, shows a red (20) in the icon badge, but then doesn’t have any notifications for me.
@taskwarrior Excellent pro/con discussion, and very solid packaging! I am excited about dumping RTM and going straight-console!
@taskwarrior Wondering pros/cons of using git to sync $HOME/.task folder instead of using taskd. Possible? Any pitfalls?
Co-worker says he’ll be on vacation “4/3-7/14”. Now we’re arguing operator precedence rules. It looks like April 3 through July 14th to me!
Working on a problem whose priority is “low/critical”. Huh?
Tried to April fool the kids this morning with the most plausible prank - @WCPSS declared today a T4 snow make-up day. They didn’t buy it.
